Questions

Picture framing questions, answered

There is no flat price, because the cost follows the size of the piece, which of our 400+ mouldings you choose and whether it needs a mount. A small photograph in a simple moulding and a large oil painting are not the same job. Bring the piece in or ring the shop on 01934 636568 and we will give you a straight figure rather than a range that turns out to be wrong.

It depends on what the piece needs and what is already on the bench, so we give you a date when you drop it in rather than quote a blanket figure. If it is a present or for a particular day, say so at the counter — we would rather know then than find out afterwards. Straightforward mounts are often cut while you wait.

Yes, and we are asked to do it constantly. Bring the frame with you along with whatever is going in it, so we can measure both rather than work from a size written on a scrap of paper. We cut on a computerised mountcutter with a professional 45-degree bevelled edge, from 1400 micron white core board, in over 70 colours.

Yes. Shirts, medals, memorabilia, certificates and tapestries are all routine here. Anything with depth has to be built out so the glass never touches the object, which is a different job from framing a flat print. Bring it in and we will show you how it would sit before you commit to anything.

Yes, cross-stitch and tapestry stretching is part of the service. Needlework has to be stretched square and held without any adhesive touching the fabric, which is why it is worth having done properly rather than pinned into a ready made frame. Bring it in and we will talk through how it should be presented.

Over 400 mouldings and more than 70 mount board colours, held in the shop on Locking Road. That range is the reason we ask you to bring the picture in: holding the actual boards against your actual picture settles it in two minutes, and no swatch on a screen will do the same job.

Yes — we are mirror manufacturers, not just retailers. We can make a mirror to any size in any of our 400+ mouldings, so it fits the alcove or chimney breast you actually have and can match a frame already in the room. As the manufacturer our prices are competitive and our quality is second to none.

Both, out of the same workshop behind the gallery, and we have done since 1976. Artists, photographers and galleries use us for framing. For wholesale mounts in quantity our sister site Picture Mounts Online is set up for standard sizes and volume, and we also sell through our eBay store.

We are on Locking Road in Weston-super-Mare, BS23 3BY, on the outskirts of the town centre — which makes calling in with something large a good deal easier than the high street. Open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, closed Sunday. There is a fully equipped workshop behind the gallery.
